Prof. Dr. Riccardo FERRANDO

University of Genova, Genova, Italy, EU

Present position: Associate Professor at the Physics Department ofthe University of Genova, Italy, EU

Specialization in nanoscience: Modelling of metalnanoparticles and nanoalloys

At the NANOCON 2015 conference Prof. Ferrando will deliver the invited lecture at the session E - Advanced Methods of Preparation and Characterization of Nanomaterials.

Education and Professional Track:
Riccardo Ferrando received his Laurea degree in Physics cum laude in 1988 and received his Ph.D. degree in Physics in 1993 from the University of Genova, Italy (EU). In 1993/1994 he was a postdoctoral fellow at the CRMC2/ CNRS in Marseille, France (EU), thanks to a fellowship from the French Ministry of Education. From 1995 he is a staff member at the Physics Department of the University of Genova, first as Researcher and then as Associate Professor in Physics of Matter. He has been a Visiting Professor at Los Alamos National Laboratory (U.S.A.), at the the Blaise Pascal University (Clemont-Ferrand, France, EU), at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Céramique Industrielle (Limoges, France, EU), and at the Université Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris, France, EU).

Research interests:
His research interests lie in theoretical and computational condensed matter physics and chemistry ranging from the theory of stochastic processes (escape rate theories) to surface diffusion of atoms and aggregates and crystal growth. More recently he has focused his interest in the computational modeling of metallic nanoparticles, with special attention to their structural properties and growth dynamics. He has been Chairman of the COST Action NANOALLOY, an European network of more than 70 laboratories from 24 EU countries.

Publication activity:
Riccardo Ferrando is the author of about 190 papers in peer-reviewed journals and associate editor of the Journal of Nanoparticle Research.
